Full Sulphur Filly, Desert Honey's 2009 Photos |
|
Desert Honey is going to be a
BEAUTIFUL one-of-a-kind Sulphur mare |
|
A Letter from Hardy
Oelke, Dated: Thursday, December 4,
2008- Hi! There is no doubt that your Desert Honey is...Sorraia
Studbook worthy. She is, after all, one of the best-marked dun factor
fillies anywhere, as far as I can tell. Hardy Oelke |

|
After the next
shedding, her legs will be black, and she will be a grulla with bi-coloring
and lots of stripes. The yellow stripe in her mane is not really yellow, but
whitish as in many duns, grullas and in 95 % or more of Sorraias. It's what
we refer to as bi-coloring." (HO) |

|
|
Honey's stripes are
starting to show through the winter fuzz. Honey has "Cleopatra Eye liner" and
beauty marks (tear drops) on her cheeks on each of her cheeks. |

The 2001, study is looking into the
relationship (if any) between the Iberian (Spanish and Portuguese) breeds. As
the Sulphurs are a recognized Iberian breed (Old World blood) now found in
the New World they were included in this study. Honey's mother, Sundance
Desert Cielo and Honey's maternal Grandmother,
Sulphur's Cinnamon, was tested and found to carry the Iberian/Barb 1 Sul mtDNA
pattern. As mtDNA is passed in the maternal lines all dams,
grand-dams, sisters, female siblings and daughters to these horses will also
have the same patterns.

Birth Photos on March 29, 2008 |
|
March 29, 2008,
Early Saturday morning, Cielo
gave birth to a beautiful fuzzy filly.
All clean and pretty! Both are doing fine.
The foal, sound asleep, with mom standing over her watching her sleep.
Cielo handled her first birthing just fine. The only help she rec'd was from
the geldings. |
