The photo shows the herd of Sulphur Horses on
their way to forage like wild horses. We let them have the "run" of the
place. Their pasture is out of food and they now have three fields of
Alfalfa, one field of oats, and all the sticks and twigs they can find.
They came out of their pasture and ate as much of the grass and old hay they
could find. They didn't bother the apple tree, that is on the right hand size
of this large photo. The mare, Desert Cielo is in a corral by herself,
as we are weaning her filly, Desert Honey, who was born in March 2008. Cielo
(aka CLO) has to dry up and get her strength and shape back. We are hoping to
breed her with Sulphur Prince our stallion in 2009.
Honey has turned out so gorgeous we are hoping for
a little colt. Prince is in his corral with our bull, gotta keep the
boys together! Prince is a wild born full Sulphur Horse (parents are wild on
the HMA) and CLO is a ranch born full Sulphur
Horse (parents were wild born, but are now living in California, at Return to
Freedom, a mustang horse sanctuary. |
